By A Correspondent| Masvingo City Council has appealed to residents to visit local cemeteries and assess the condition of graves belonging to their departed relatives following reports that several burial sites have deteriorated.
According to the local authority, a number of graves have either collapsed, sunk into the ground or suffered structural damage over time, raising concerns about safety and the upkeep of cemeteries.
In a statement issued last week, council urged families to inspect the resting places of their loved ones and carry out repairs where necessary.
“Families and relatives of deceased are therefore kindly urged to visit the cemeteries and inspect the graves of their loved ones. Where graves require attention, owners are encouraged to carry out the necessary repairs in order to preserve the dignity of the resting places and maintain the general cleanliness and safety of our cemeteries,” said the council.
The local authority emphasized that maintaining graves is important not only for preserving the memory of the deceased but also for ensuring cemeteries remain safe and orderly for visitors.
Residents seeking guidance on grave repairs or information regarding cemetery regulations have been advised to contact the City Public Relations office on 0712868823.
