By Staff Reporter-A cloud of controversy has engulfed Zimbabwean businessman and diplomat Enoch Mangirande after an international organization publicly stripped him of his appointment and distanced itself from alleged links to illegal gold dealings.
In a strongly worded statement, the International Forum for Peace & Diplomacy (IFPD) announced that Mangirande had been relieved of his position as the organization’s Economic Envoy and no longer has any authority to represent the institution in any capacity.
The dramatic fallout follows what the organization described as “serious concerns” over activities allegedly carried out by Mangirande that were inconsistent with its ethical standards and core values.
In what appears to be an extraordinary attempt to protect its reputation, the IFPD went further by expressly denying any involvement in illegal gold trading, gold smuggling or unlawful commercial activities.
“The International Forum for Peace & Diplomacy unequivocally states that it has never participated in, endorsed, facilitated, or been associated with any form of illegal gold trade, gold smuggling, or any unlawful commercial activity,” the statement reads.
The organization warned governments, diplomatic missions, private sector players and international partners to disregard any representations, commitments or transactions allegedly made by Mangirande in the name of the IFPD.
The unprecedented public disclaimer is likely to fuel speculation over the nature of the allegations that prompted the termination, particularly after the organization specifically referenced illegal gold trade and smuggling in its statement.
While the IFPD stopped short of detailing the allegations against its former envoy, its decision to issue a public notice and revoke his mandate suggests the matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness.
The organization said anyone claiming to act on its behalf in relation to illegal gold activities does so without its knowledge, authorization or approval.
The development comes at a time when concerns over illicit gold smuggling networks operating across Southern Africa continue to attract international attention, with governments and law enforcement agencies intensifying efforts to crack down on cross-border syndicates.
Despite the controversy, the IFPD insisted it remains committed to transparency, accountability and cooperation with relevant authorities to safeguard its integrity and the confidence of its stakeholders.
Efforts to obtain a response from Mangirande were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
