Tinashe Sambiri| Zanu PF online activist Cleopas Mukungunugwa on Tuesday issued a statement praising controversial tenderpreneur Wicknell Chivayo’s latest meetings in Kenya, despite growing questions over the businessman’s opaque dealings across Africa.
Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo continues his self-styled “high-level diplomatic engagements,” fresh from a courtesy call with President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi.
Chivayo has once again secured an audience with President William Ruto, this time to celebrate the head of state’s “action-oriented” leadership following his recent South Africa visit.
Mukungunugwa praised the growing Kenya-South Africa economic corridor, now valued at over USD 11 billion annually, and lauded President Ruto’s rural electrification drive, including the newly commissioned Mariakani 400/220kV Substation which is set to strengthen Kenya’s transmission network.
What Mukungunugwa calls Chivayo’s “distinctive” approach is his focus on developmental messaging — championing the “Leave No One Behind” philosophy while using his platform to amplify infrastructure milestones like the Mariakani project, rural electrification programmes, and bilateral agreements covering trade, energy, tourism, skills development, and investment promotion.
“The future belongs to nations that DARE TO DREAM,” Chivayo declared, expressing confidence in Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
Critics, however, say the statement is another attempt to launder Chivayo’s image by tying him to foreign presidents, even as his record of controversial government tenders in Zimbabwe remains unresolved.
Mukungunugwa’s praise sidesteps concerns over Chivayo’s track record, instead framing his Kenya meetings as proof of statesmanship.
