The shockwaves, captured in a video circulating as “CAB3 EXPLOSIVE,” threaten not only Harare's political stability but also the delicate balance of the entire Southern African region.
“When the Constitutional Court voices concern, even obliquely, the presidency must listen. This is not a street-corner rumour; it carries the weight of the highest judicial institution,” said a senior Harare-based political analyst who requested anonymity citing security fears. “Pair that with Mutsvangwa’s attack on Chiwenga and you see a ruling class at war with itself.”
CAB3 and the Battle for Succession
The term “CAB3” has surfaced in closed ZANU-PF circles as a shorthand for a covert axis of military and political heavyweights allegedly orchestrating a succession plan. While details remain murky, insiders link CAB3 to hardliners who believe Mnangagwa must step aside for a younger, more militarised figure—Chiwenga being their apparent champion. Mutsvangwa, once a staunch Mnangagwa ally, appears to have turned his guns on Chiwenga to signal that the presidency will not tolerate any palace coup, not even from the party’s own vice president.
In the video, Mutsvangwa reportedly accuses Chiwenga of running a parallel government, undermining economic recovery, and conspiring with regional forces to destabilise the administration. The attack goes far beyond typical party rhetoric. It carries the endorsement—tacit or explicit—of Mnangagwa himself, several diplomatic sources indicated. “When a spokesperson of Mutsvangwa’s calibre speaks like this, he is not freelancing. The Constitutional Court’s red flag is equally combustible.
